God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
The return of the asymmetrical Saturday was one of those small events that were interior, local, almost civic and which, in tranquil lives and closed societies, create a sort of national bond and become the favorite theme of conversation, of jokes and of stories exaggerated with pleasure: it would have been a ready-made seed for a legendary cycle, had any of us leanings toward the epic. -- Marcel Proust, Remembrance of Things Past, Vol. I
I love Saturdays. For me, they have just the right amount of structure and flexibility in which I feel most fully alive.
I awoke around seven o'clock, said my prayers, and went out to my kitchen stoop to have a smoke and view my burgeoning wildflower garden. My little brother Rossdog called as usual at 7:30 to confirm breakfast. He arrived at Lucky's on time at 8:01 and I, of course, arrived about five or ten minutes later. This week I showed up with a Flock of Seagulls-wannabe hairdo. We've been doing this for almost eight years. We have our own little rituals -- reading our horoscopes, reading our waiter's horoscope, commenting on the psychic kitchen staff, talking to ActorDude and other regulars, and laughing a lot with each other and at each other.
I encouraged Ross to go vote in the municipal elections and went to vote myself. It's so nice and reassuring that the same litttle old people are there every election to stamp my voter registration card. I went back home to take my meds, fix my hair, and water the flowers, and then I went by StatScript to pick up a couple of refills before the men's AA meeting.
David led the meeting on using the tools of the program, particularly pausing. I love that group of men. Several of them were very sad and concerned about one of our old-timers who is dying in the hospital. Several also seemed very concerned about me due to my emotional outburst at last week's meeting and Dan's moving this past week. They were very kind. Tom, Will, Bill, Kelly, and some others and I went to Zaguan World Bakery & Cafe for lunch and to catch up afterwards. I went by the grocery store to get my laundry quarters and to restock on some essentials before heading home for the day.
I intended to do a lot of gardening yesterday, but my allergies were badly bothering my eyes, so I read and took a nap instead. I finally finished Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It's a very good book, but I had the most difficult time finishing it. I played some more Civilization III later and did finally broadcast the additional wildflower seeds I ordered. I heated up some more Potato and Turkey Sausage Soup for dinner and headed to bed early.
One more day of weekend left. Enjoy!
