God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
It must
Be the finding of a satisfaction, and may
Be of a man skating, a woman dancing, a woman
Combing. The poem of the act of the mind.
-- Wallace Stevens, Of Modern Poetry
We have all had the experience of finding that our reactions and perhaps even our deeds have denied beliefs we thought were ours. -- James Baldwin, “The Crusade of Indignation,” Nation, New York, July 7, 1956
I awoke at sunrise yesterday, made some coffee, and sat on my kitchen stoop smoking a cigarette and looking at my wildflower garden. I was able to finish blogging before Jean-Paul arose.
We both drank our coffee, showered, dressed, and then drove up and down the streets of Oak Lawn, Uptown, and Knox-Henderson looking for vacant apartments. We took a break and ate breakfast at Lucky's before going to visit four of the apartments he selected. I think he found one on Hall that he likes in his price range.
I drove him to DFW and stopped by Calloway's Nursery afterwards. I looked around and saw that they carry many of the Monrovia plants I had seen online. I finally found the last two "Texas Purple" Japanese wisteria at 50% off and bought them. One of the guys there was very helpful and told me what to use to plant them. I will definitely go back there again when I'm ready to buy more plants.
I drove around Winnetka Heights and Beckley Club looking at what houses were for sale. I drove by the zoo and saw they are beginning to build affordable housing on a slope right where I thought would be a perfect spot a couple of years ago.
I came home and laid down to take a nap until a call from Joey the PhD woke me. He had just gotten off work and asked if I was free for coffee. We met later at Crossroads Market and talked for about an hour and half. Actually, I did most of the talking. He is attractive and pleasant but seemed either bored, distracted, or tired. I'd be tired, too, if I'd just worked two twelve-hour shifts, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd be surprised if he calls again, but one never knows.
