God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.

Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.

Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.

Pride is an established conviction of one’s own paramount worth in some particular respect, while vanity is the desire of rousing such a conviction in others, and it is generally accompanied by the secret hope of ultimately coming to the same conviction oneself. Pride works from within; it is the direct appreciation of oneself. Vanity is the desire to arrive at this appreciation indirectly, from without. -- Arthur Schopenhauer, Parerga and Paralipomena, Vol. 2

Yesterday, I wrapped up everything that I could at work. I returned the boxes of old Sales Journal reports to the shop floor, returned some files back to the old AP room, and returned the Account Reconciliation binders to the old Accounting office. I distributed all the pertinent paperwork on my desk to the appropriate parties and sent a list of open items remaining to Doug and the Finance team.

Doug responded with a very thoughtful note of gratitude for my hard work and help. I don't know why, but I began to tear up when reading it. I can't remember at what point in life I stopped expecting acknowledgement and appreciation for my work. It often surprises me now when I receive it.

After work, I drove to Calloway's Nursery in Irving but it was already closed. I went to Home Depot near me instead and bought gardening soil, potting soil, landscaping mix, and new flowers to replace the dying zinnias in the planters out front. I dug another big hole and planted the second "Texas Purple" Japanese wisteria directly in front of my kitchen stoop. More than a few innocent wildflowers lost their lives in the planting of that wisteria. I hope they come back. I was also able to clear away all the dirt from the sidewalk by nightfall.

I came in and briefly logged on to gay.com before showering and heading to bed. I watched a rerun of Will & Grace before drifting off to sleep. At 3:30, I awoke due to a particularly vivid dream I was having; however, I cannot recall the details. I seem to be sleeping more deeply and dreaming more this week since switching to decaf coffee. I couldn't go back to sleep for a couple of hours, but when I did, I slept hard.

I awoke this morning with a severely stiff and sore knee from all the digging this week. Today will be a very nice and pleasant last day at GE.
