rain

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace-
that where there is hatred, I may bring love-
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness-
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony-
that where there is error, I may bring truth-
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith-
that where there is despair, I may bring hope-
that where there are shadows, I may bring light-
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather
to comfort than to be comforted-
to understand than to be understood-
to love than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.

Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.

Rain falls for centuries
Soaking the loose rocks in space
Sweet rain, the fire’s out
The black snag glistens in the rain
& the last wisp of smoke floats up

-- Gary Snyder, Burning

Yesterday was a fine day. Work went well except that I was late once again. I guess that when you're punching a clock nobody else minds, but I do because I've never been very good at arriving to work punctually. Regan trained me on what would need to be done today while he was out for shoulder surgery.

I came home and replied to an email from Judy in Malaysia, read Tradition Five, and then drove to Theo's for our Rebellion Dogs study group. We had a good meeting but Nate seemed a bit down. Theo served a wonderful dessert so his sobriety must really be intact.

I came home, called my mom, called my sponsor, and did some stuff around here. After a while I logged on to gay.com and ended up chatting with a really nice guy named Terry. We're going to meet for coffee and dessert tomorrow night at the West Village. I told him that I had never pictured myself with a black guy although I've dated a couple and slept with several. We ventured into quite a deep conversation for that late at night, but all in all, I think he appreciated my honesty. It's not that I'm against it. I've just never really thought about it before. We'll see what happens.

This morning, I had a difficult time getting myself out of the house again. Again, nobody said anything when I was late. I finished up a couple of projects today and prepared a essential journal entry that Regan had overlooked last week. We got that uploaded and managed to publish all the lab financial statements and other reports to the internet by five o'clock. A nice guy named James from the help desk came over afterwards to finally get my email working correctly.

This evening, I didn't do much but watch TV, eat dinner, and research the new microwave and kitchen shelves I want to buy soon. It's storming outside as I am blogging now. I'll go to bed shortly because I love sleeping in the rain. Until tomorrow.
