enjoyment
God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
Your enjoyment of the world is never right, till every morning you awake in Heaven: see yourself in your Father’s palace; and look upon the skies, the earth, and the air as celestial joys: having such a reverend esteem of all, as if you were among the angels. -- Thomas Traherne, “First Century,” No. 28, Centuries
...all enjoyment is dependent upon the frailty of human life and human desires ... if we were to have all we want and to live forever, all enjoyment would be gone. -- Ellen Henrietta Swallow Richards, as quoted in The Life of Ellen H. Richards
Enjoyment and being pleased can ... be distinguished first of all by the scope of their objects, that which a man may be said to enjoy or to be pleased at, with or by. Thus one may be said to be pleased by almost any kind of thing: the result of the General Election, one’s own success in keeping one’s temper in trying circumstances, a new dress, the government’s stand on pornography. On the other hand one can be said to enjoy only one’s own activities and experiences: playing tennis, studying philosophy, sunbathing, being tickled. -- Elizabeth Telfer, Happiness
Love Sundays. I didn't do a whole lot except blog, talk to Uncle Hal, and play around on the Internet. I tried to go see Girl With A Pearl Earring at the Inwood, but it was sold out. So, I went by BookStop a little while and then got myself a White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks.
I went into Home Depot to look for the closet doors about which Uncle Hal told me and ran into Shahim or whatever his name is at the front door. He walked around the store with me which was fine, but he's just too aggressive and sad and touchy for me. I hate being blunt and rude and try not to be, but he won't take a hint.
I talked to Dean and we made plans to order a pizza and watch Under The Tuscan Sun on DVD. I went by Blockbuster, and they were all out, but I found the movie in one of the carts. We had a great time cuddling up on the couch, eating dinner, and watching the movie which was great although Diane Lane overacted a bit I think in the beginning. Perhaps she should leave comedy to other actresses.
This morning, I came home and received an email from Chuck. He had a conference call and was unable to pick up a newcomer from our group who was returning his rental truck after moving here last week from San Francisco. I drove out to Richardson and returned him safely home. I then met David at the condo for a walk-through and to sign some more papers. A few things have been repaired but not all. We'll go back in a couple of days. However, the contractor came in while we were there, and he was able to answer some of my design questions. I'm fired up now about it.
