exhausted
God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
Don’t tell me that you have exhausted Life. When a man says that, one knows that life has exhausted him. -- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
A population weakened and exhausted by battling against so many obstacles—whose needs are never satisfied and desires never fulfilled—is vulnerable to manipulation and regimentation. The struggle for survival is, above all, an exercise that is hugely time-consuming, absorbing and debilitating. If you create these “anti-conditions,” your rule is guaranteed for a hundred years. -- Ryszard Kapuscinski, “A Warsaw Diary,” No. 15, Granta
When you are exhausted from trying to beat the odds against recovery, when you want only to cash in your chips and let them fall where they may, you do not ask your doctor to gamble with your life but to stop gambling. -- Steven Radlauer, Letter to the editor, New York Times, November 5, 1986
I am SO ready to close just so I can sleep again. I called my former mortgage broker and left him a message and sent an email of my decision and reasons to switch to Shelter Mortgage for financing.
I met my Realtor David at the condo yesterday to do a final walk-through. It appeared that everything important had been repaired with a little cleanup still to do. We went to his office to sign the final papers and get the information on home warranty programs from which to pick.
Then I went by Starbucks for a White Chocolate Mocha and strolled through Pottery Barn to window shop for furniture. I found my old sponsor Wilson working there part-time. I was so glad to see him and got his new address in Dallas. I went down to Crate & Barrel and found an old friend Paul who worked there. He was a furniture-maker several years ago, and he had come to mind when I made the offer on the condo a few weeks ago. I was glad to see him again as well.
I went to Kinko's and made copies of the financial statements to give to Jay to deliver at tonight's business meeting. We went over my comments and any questions he had. I then headed out to UTD to work on my homework for class. I stopped by Barnes & Noble to look at some of the interior decorating books I'd found on the Internet -- Tuscan Interiors, Paris Interiors, Small Lofts. I stopped again by Starbucks to get a Vanilla Latte this time before driving out to campus. When I arrived there, I found the doors on all sides of the Greene Building locked and returned home.
I fell asleep early and awoke at about 10:30. I stayed up for a couple of hours before finally falling asleep again. This is exhausting!
