freedom

God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.

Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.

Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.

Freedom to think our own thoughts, freedom to utter them, freedom to live out the promptings of our inner life ultimated in this convention, was termed a monstrosity of the 19th century. What was it?—the legitimate out-birth of the eternal law of progress. This reformation underlies every other; it is the only healthful centre around which hope of humanity can revolve. -- Harriot K. Hunt, Glances and Glimpses

Freedom is poetry, taking liberties with words, breaking the rules of normal speech, violating common sense. Freedom is violence. -- Norman O. Brown, Love’s Body

Freedom is not an ideal, it is not even a protection, if it means nothing more than freedom to stagnate, to live without dreams, to have no greater aim than a second car and another television set. -- Adlai Stevenson, “Putting First Things First,” Foreign Affairs

What a good day yesterday was. I got off my ass and got some things done. I created a spreadsheet and pivot table of all the accounting/finance job listings on monster.com for our recruiters. Then, I counted the money for Lambda for the last few days of January and deposited it at the bank. I drove out to UTD to meet my statistics professor from last semester and pick up my term paper, but he had forgotten it. No matter. He encouraged me to enroll in one of the masters or PhD programs, and we briefly discussed the Cities programmes at the London School of Economics in which I am interested.

Afterwards, I finally broke down and entered the twenty-first century by buying a Virgin Mobile cellphone at BestBuy. Now, I don't have to be housebound anymore while on the bench for work. Another customer and I ended up having a lengthy conversation with the sales clerk about buying a house or a condo. Afterwards, I dropped the rent by my landlord's house and dropped the check for Lambda's rent by the post office. I was starving by this point, so I went to Hunky's for a hickory cheeseburger and some fried zucchini. Chris, the guy at the cash register, was very talkative, and on my way out, he asked if I was single. I told him that I was dating around and gave him my phone number. That was such a good feeling. I cannot remember the last time somebody asked if they could ask me out. Maybe my energy's changing.

I rushed home and almost slit my wrists trying to open the packaging of my new cellphone. I don't know who designs these plastic bubble thingies, but they're definitely secure. I set up my account and phone and plugged it in to charge up. Larry arrived and we drove up to the Inwood to see Lost in Translation. The movie was actually quite good; different and subtle, but good. I'm going to encourage Rossdog to go see it as he's an aspiring filmmaker. And, after seeing the previews, I really want to see Girl With A Pearl Earring as well. Larry hadn't eaten dinner yet, so we went to Lucky's so he could have a burger. All in all, a very good day.
