rest
God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets.
-- Unknown, Weep You No More, Sad Fountains
Soldier, rest! thy warfare o’er,
Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking;
Dream of battled fields no more,
Days of danger, nights of waking.
-- Sir Walter Scott, The Lady of the Lake
Rest enough for the individual man. Too much and too soon and we call it death. But for Man no rest and no ending. He must go on, conquest beyond conquest. First, this little planet and its winds and ways. And then all laws of mind and matter that restrain him. Then the planets about him. And at last, out across immensity to the stars. And when he has conquered all the deeps of space and all the mysteries of time, still he will be beginning.... Little animals. And if we’re no more than animals we must snatch each little scrap of happiness, and live and suffer and pass, mattering no more than all the other animals do or have done. It is this, or that. All the universe or nothing. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be? -- H.G. Wells, Things to Come
I feel more normal today. To catch up, Ross and I met for our usual breakfast at Lucky's on Saturday. He's talked to his managers at work about moving to New York in May, and everything seems to be falling into place. Although he had planned to commute back to Dallas to complete his current project, he learned that they planned to roll him off in mid- to late-April, and they have projects in the Northeast where they'd like to place him. He finished telling me about his visit with the numerologist, and then we went to visit my new condo. He liked it very much and is excited for me.
I went to the Men's AA Meeting afterwards which Ed led on not being alone anymore. I ran by Todd's new place afterwards to look at some furniture he wants to get rid of, but I probably need to get rid of some of my own first before taking anymore on. On the way out to UTD, I stopped by Gunter's Nursery to look at the orchids Tony about which Tony had told me. They were beautiful. I particularly liked Autumn Sunrise. I joined my study group, and we discussed the homework assignment. Now that the condo thing is over, I really need to catch up with school, but I held my own in the discussion.
I didn't do much the rest of the day and fell asleep early. I awoke early Sunday and caught up on the accounting for my group. I spent a lot of time analyzing the contributions because we seem to have a drop this month in attendance and average contributions. Those two factors combined with this being a short month are going to put another dent in our prudent reserve. Hopefully, it's only temporary. In the afternoon, I could not motivate myself to do anything, so I watched this series on the Medici on PBS. It was fascinating. I knew a little about them beforehand, but I had no idea that they were popes and patrons of Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Botacelli, and all those guys.
Sunday evening, I drove over to Dean's to eat Chinese food and watch the final episode of Sex and The City. I like that show, and it reminded me how excited I am to have cable in my new condo. We went to sleep fairly early. I'm still catching up on all the sleep I missed the past couple of weeks. Yesterday, I made it all the way to mid-January for the ambulance billings. I think I can get them up to February by the time I leave tomorrow. I began to feel a little weird in the afternoon and decided to skip class last night and just come home and rest. I don't want to get sick with everything I have to do in the next month.
This morning, I awoke early and reconciled the Intergroup invoices from what Janis sent me. I'm glad to have that part done as it's been on my list for a while. Now, I only need to fill in the detail, and we'll have an accurate record of our purchases over the last couple of years. Time to get going now.
