loss

God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.

Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.

Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.

Swallow a loss and learn a lesson. -- Chinese proverb

All loss, all pain, is particular; the universe remains to the heart unhurt. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Spiritual Laws,” Essays, First Series

Begin with loss and see
how the world contradicts you,
how the horizon implies that beyond it
the water is not empty
but full of ships
all docking at another island.

-- Lynn Emanuel, “Robinson Crusoe Talks to Friday”

It's been a somewhat eventful past couple of days. Wednesday, I did not feel well at all. I had developed a fever blister, felt constipated, and strained some muscle in my back. That often happens when I am stressed, but I don't recall feeling that way. I picked up a prescription at StatScript, picked up my laundry, ran by Eckerd, and picked up some Aveda at Michael Raymond Salon. Then, I just settled in for the night but had a difficult time falling to sleep.

Yesterday morning, my manager informed me that she had been instructed to let one of the two contractors go, so my last day at Miller Brewing Company will be Friday, May 7. I expected as much because once the budgeting is complete, I'll have little to do. I've made good progress on the budgets for both the Southern and Eastern Regions and should be able to complete everything by the deadline next Friday. After work, I went to the six o'clock AA meeting which Paul led on working the Steps. I stopped by the condo to bring my cleaning upstairs and then headed to The Ginger Man for Ross and Paul's going-away party hosted by their friends.

Ross' childhood friend Brian was there, and we spent most of the evening talking and reminiscing. I met Ross' current roommates and several of his friends from church. I am so excited for him, but I don't think it's sunk in yet how much I'll miss him when he's gone. He's become probably my best friend besides being my baby brother. In addition to meeting for breakfast at Lucky's most Saturday mornings for the past nine years, we've worked together, gone to the theater together, been there for each other whatever comes. I know this is the right move for him, and I'm looking forward to see what happens with his life once he up in New York.
