inspired
God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy Will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do Thy Will always.
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would always be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.
Thank You for keeping me sober today. Amen.
Seeds, there are seeds enough which need only be stirred in with the soil where they lie, by an inspired voice or pen, to bear fruit of a divine flavor. -- Henry David Thoreau, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers
Permanent success cannot be achieved except by incessant intellectual labour, always inspired by the ideal. -- Sarah Bernhardt, The Art of the Theatre
I had been curiously depressed all day. In the night I wakened. First precise thought: I know why I’m depressed—nothing inspired is going on. Second: I demand that life be inspired every moment. Third: the only way to guarantee this is to have inspired conversation every moment. Fourth: most people never get so far as conversation; they haven’t the stamina, and there is no time. Fifth: if I had a magazine I could spend my time filling it up with the best conversation the world has to offer. Sixth: marvelous idea—salvation. Seventh: decision to do it. Deep sleep. -- Margaret Anderson, My Thirty Years’ War
I enjoyed yesterday very much. After blogging and setting up my budget file again, I went to the Men's AA meeting at Lambda which Don led on fear. My friend Tom W came in and sat beside me. I was so glad to see him. I'd been thinking about him a lot recently as he's been working on the final research for his PhD dissertation. There was also something so comforting about him sitting beside me that caused me to reflect on how I look at other men. So often I look at them through eyes of lust, sexuality, and physical attraction, not love. The feeling is profoundly different, at least to me. This isn't the first time I've realized this about myself. I don't know how to change that, but I'm definitely willing to try.
After the meeting, several of us went to eat at Angela's Cafe up at Lovers and Inwood. I sat with several newcomers and went with them afterwards to see Farenheit 9/11 at the Magnolia. I am so glad that I saw that. It was funny, sad, and anger- and thought-provoking. I was inspired again to do what I could to defeat George W. Bush this year in the election, to end the war in Iraq, to repeal the USA Patriot Act, and to support our troops overseas. I immediately contributed to Howard Dean's Democracy for America and to the VFW's Operation Uplink which provides calling cards to troops so they may stay in touch with their families. Today, I plan to write and send letters to my Congressman and Senators voicing my opinions.
I finished counting the money for Lambda. It looks like we may come close to restoring our prudent reserve this month. I took a nap, ate dinner, and chatted a bit before falling asleep last night.
This morning, I meditated and read while having my morning coffee. I've reinstalled QuickBooks on my computer but can't seen to get Quicken 2002 to work because of some Microsoft Virtual Machine problem recognizing 16-bit commands. It's probably time to upgrade to Quicken 2004 anyway.
Today is laundry day. I have a lot of other things to catch up on, too. It's good to blog again.
